GEIGER

Huge thanks to Tracy at Compulsive Readers & Zaffre Books for my spot on the blog tour for #Geiger and for providing me a proof copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

SHORT SYNOPSIS:

The landline rings as Agneta is waving off her grandchildren. Just one word comes out of the receiver: ‘Geiger’.

For decades, Agneta has always known that this moment would come, but she is shaken. She knows what it means.

Retrieving her weapon from its hiding place, she attaches the silencer and creeps up behind her husband before pressing the barrel to his temple.

Then she squeezes the trigger and disappears – leaving behind her wallet and keys.

The extraordinary murder is not Sara Nowak’s case. But she was once close to those affected and, defying regulations, she joins the investigation. What Sara doesn’t know is that the mysterious codeword is just the first piece in the puzzle of an intricate and devastating plot fifty years in the making . . .

MY REVIEW:

If you were to find me in a bookstore, you would most definitely not see me purchasing a thriller. The only thrillers I read and thoroughly enjoyed are Peter May's books, however, Geiger most definitely changed my mind on thrillers!

Thought-provoking, carefully researched, utterly gripping and with a killer hook, it's no surprise Geiger will be made into a film 🎬

Although the book starts with Agneta's story, we soon realise there is much more to the storyline one needs to know to fully comprehend what is happening. The author included a very good mix of characters, overall you really get a feel of the whole story from everyone's perspective, rather than just having one narrator. As the book progresses you start seeing the connection between everything and how well plotted this story is.

I really liked how focused you have to be the whole time. If you blink you might miss half the story - Geiger is full of information! You can definitely learn a lot about espionage and the history behind the Cold War.

Something that really touched me was how well-researched the author is. There must have been months and months of research before Gustaf started writing Geiger. You can see that in every line of the book.

Overall, Geiger is a really intriguing and engaging spy thriller that had me gripped till the very end.
