Hummingbird Salamander

Many thanks to Matt Clacher and Harper Collins for gifting me this wonderful proof copy of Hummingbird Salamander. I had to gift this copy to my friend Luke, who was so keen to read it, so I will be sharing his review until I am able to read it and write my own review.

SHORT SYNOPSIS:

Security consultant and former wrestler 'Jane Smith' receives an envelope with a key to a storage unit that holds a taxidermied hummingbird and clues leading her to a taxidermied salamander. Silvina, the dead woman who left the note, is a reputed ecoterrorist and the daughter of an Argentine industrialist. By taking the hummingbird from the storage unit, Jane sets in motion a series of events that quickly spin beyond her control.

Soon, Jane and her family are in danger, with few allies to help her make sense of the true scope of the peril. Is the only way to safety to follow in Silvina's footsteps? Is it too late to stop? As she desperately seeks answers about why Silvina contacted her, time is running out-for her and possibly for the world.

Luke's Review:

Hummingbird Salamander by Jeff VanderMeer is a rollercoaster of "what does this mean?" And "why did that happen?". The book is full of complex enigmas and mysteries that keep compelling you forward, desperate to know the truth and know how all the separate pieces connect.

Confusing, cryptic and captivating, Hummingbird Salamander really lives up to Jeff VanderMeer's intoxicating style of writing that compels you to rush in and learn everything you can.

Hummingbird Salamander is out tomorrow, you can purchase it here or in other respective bookshops.
